Ready, Willing & Able (RWA) is an initiative of the Canadian Association for Community Living.
There are approximately 500,000 working age adults with developmental disabilities who with targeted support, community investment and employer leadership could join the labour force at rates similar to other Canadians. They are ready, willing and able to be part of creating an inclusive and effective labour market. The Canadian Association for Community Living’s Ready, Willing and Able initiative, in partnership with the Canadian Autism Spectrum Disorders Alliance (CASDA), will increase labour force participation of people with developmental disabilities, focusing on people with intellectual disabilities and people on the autism spectrum thereby advancing economic productivity and social inclusion in Canada.
As a national strategy to develop inclusive and effective labour markets, RWA will achieve the following objectives:
- Engage and support employers (local and national-scale) to hire people with developmental disabilities;
- Promote understanding and awareness among employers and the general public as to the value of hiring of people with developmental disabilities;
- Enhance capacity of the community employment supports delivery system to be the effective bridge-builders that small, medium and large-scale employers need.
RWA activates the necessary conditions at local, provincial/territorial and national levels to better align workforce supply with employer demand. A dynamic program design equips communities to be nimble and responsive to employer demand, at the same time leveraging RWA investment to transform existing capacity and increase and optimize use of current and future federal and provincial/territorial employment programming. By scaling up, sharing best practices and fully utilizing leadership and innovation, RWA will help to develop a transformed community employment delivery system that better aligns employer demand with this untapped workforce.
